The Légion d’Honneur Awarded to Canadian Veterans

OTTAWA, September 28th,2006 – France will be honouring 9 Veterans on the 29th and 30th of September in Ottawa and in Montreal. The Ambassador of France in Canada, Mr. Daniel Jouanneau, will be decorating five Veterans in the federal capital during a reception that will take place at the Embassy of France on Friday, September 29th, 2006 at 4:30 PM.

The Veterans decorated with the insignia of the Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur are: Rear Admiral Reginald J. Pickford, Colonel Fernand Mousseau, Sergeant Wilfred Thomas Jones, Corporal James Gordon Donald, and Private Fred Nicholls.

In distinguishing these veterans, France is paying homage to the courage that they demonstrated during the battles that led to the liberation of Europe.

Information relating to the recipients as well as the Légion d’Honneur will be sent shortly. The media representatives that wish to attend the ceremony are asked to contact the press department at the Embassy.
