The Ballet de Lorraine at the NAC

In partnership with the Embassy of France, the National Arts Centre will welcome the Ballet de Lorraine in Ottawa for a presentation of La Nuit des Interprètes on the 8th, 9th and 10th of May. This retrospective evening of dance will artfully trace the evolutionary arc of the development of the modern dance genre through the works of twelve international dance innovators.

Ballet de Lorraine recently evolved from performing strictly classical repertoire to a more contemporary approach under Artistic Director Didier Deschamps. La Nuit des Interprètes gives the audience the opportunity to discover the company’s great potential through both well-known works and new creations. The performances carry us from the dissenting Québécois Refus Total movement of 1948 to the post-modern and new wave styles from New York or Montréal, with an added mix of ballet and contemporary dance.

The program includes pieces signed by:
- Paul-André Fortier/-20°, Québec
- Françoise Sullivan/Dédale & Black and Tan, Québec
- Meredith Monk/Break, United States of America
- Mathilde Monnier et Jean-François Duroure/Mama, monday, sunday or always, France
- Dominique Bagouet/Une danse blanche avec Eliane, France
- Russell Maliphant/Two, Canada
- Jean-Pierre Perreault/Les ombres dans ta tête, Québec
- Martha Graham/Lamentation, United States of America
- Isadora Duncan/La Mère & Etude révolutionnaire, United States of America
