The Legion of Honour to Jean-Marc Lalonde;
The Ordre National du Mérite to Jean-Luc Malherbe
The Ambassador of France in Canada, Mr. Daniel Jouanneau, will be giving the “Chevalier de la Légion d’honneur” medal to Mr. Jean-Marc Lalonde. He will also be giving the “Chevalier de l’Ordre National du Mérite” medal to Jean-Luc Malherbe. The ceremony will be held on Thursday January 20th, 2005, at 5:30 p.m. in the Grand Salon of the Embassy of France in Ottawa.
Jean-Marc Lalonde has been the provincial deputy for the Glengarry-Prescott-Russell district since 1995. He is also Parliamentary Assistant to Ontario’s Minister of Transportation. Previously, he was municipal counsellor and mayor of Rockland for 25 years. He founded the Association for Francophone municipalities of Ontario. The distinction that France is giving him is in response to his efforts and his work in favour of Francophonie in Ontario.
Jean-Luc Malherbe is the international president of the Club Richelieu. Beforehand, he was a translator and vice-president of the Association of translators and interpreters of Ontario. Beyond his important commitments to the community, more often to the profit of francophone organisms, the giving of the Order celebrates Mr. Malherbe’s actions in favour of a dynamic and influential Francophonie in Canada.
