Mali – Adoption of Resolution 2100
Mali – Adoption of Resolution 2100 - Statement by Laurent Fabius (April 25, 2013)
I warmly welcome the Security Council’s unanimous adoption on 25 April of Resolution 2100 enabling the African-led International Support Mission to Mali (Afisma) to be transformed into the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (Minusma).
The adoption of this resolution confirms the international community’s unanimous support for the stabilization of Mali and for the intervention by France and the states in the region to help that country. France intends to remain committed alongside the Malian people, as was shown on 22 April when a very large majority of the National Assembly and Senate voted in favour of extending the French forces’ mission in Mali.
Resolution 2100 is an important step. It is part of a comprehensive approach that includes stabilization and the restoration of security, support for the political transition and assistance with reconstruction and development. The deployment of the blue helments on the ground will begin in July 2013. It will underpin efforts to foster dialogue and reconciliation, which are crucial to the smooth running of the elections.
