Governor General meets with the Heads of missions of the EU

Her excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean and her spouse, Mr. Jean-Daniel Lafond, were guests of honour at a lunch at the residency of the French Ambassador held by the French Presidency of the European Union on Thursday, October 27, 2008.

The ambassadors of the Member States represented in Ottawa wanted to express their thanks to Ms. Michaëlle Jean for her warm welcome at the Citadelle in Quebec City during the European Union-Canada Summit on October 17, 2008.

This summit shows that Europe and Canada’s desire for collaboration goes well beyond the ambition for a strengthened economic partnership.

From its standpoint, the European Union has every reason to strengthen the collaborative with Canada, whether it be for social issues, i.e. immigration, integration, youth involvement, etc., or for global issues such as the financial crisis.
