France and cultural diversity

This convention for the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions was introduced by France and was adopted in Paris on October 20th, 2005 in accordance with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) by a majority vote of 148 member states.

It establishes, for the first time in international law, the role and legitimacy of public policy on the protection and promotion of cultural diversity and the importance of international cooperation in this field, notably in relation to developing countries.
