FCRF award for a joint PhD

In order to facilitate the mobility of doctoral students between France and Canada, the France Canada Research Fund (FCRF) is launching

The FCRF Award for the international joint PhD (cotutelle)

It is awarded for the best thesis completed by a PhD student participating in the France-Canada joint PhD (cotutelle) program after a successful defence.

The prize, worth $1,500, has been awarded for the first time in 2011 to a Canadian or French student whose thesis has been supervised under a cotutelle program between a French institution and one of the following universities:

This new award is in addition to the regular FCRF program.

To apply for the 2012 Award, the applicants should have defended their thesis in a cotutelle program in 2011. The applications have to be sent by April 15, 2012 , and must include the following documents:

  • thesis summary (1 or 2 pages),
  • copy of the "cotutelle agreement,
  • optional: weblink to the doctoral thesis,
  • curriculum vitae,
  • support letter from each supervisor of the thesis,
  • report on the thesis by at least one member of the jury not related to the two institutions.

The applications will be evaluated based on their quality, their scientific contribution, and the relevance of the France-Canada cooperation.
The selected applicant will be required to provide a copy of the cotutelle agreement and authorize the release of his/her name and information about his/her program of study for the publication on the websites of the Embassy of France in Canada and the French Consulates in Canada.
