The passing of Mrs. Helen Vari [fr]

It is with great sadness that we learned of the passing of Mrs. Helen Vari, President of the George and Helen Vari Foundation, Honorary Co-Chair of the Vimy Foundation and a great friend of France.

Helen Vari was a true Frenchwoman at heart – her unwavering commitment to the service of our country saw her awarded the distinction of Grand Officer of the Legion of Honour in 2021.

France will remember the countless contributions she made to strengthening the ties that unite France and Canada: her work to ensure the restoration of the Dôme des Invalides as well as that of the Birch Room of the French Residence in Ottawa, her funding of the Visitor Education Centre at the Canadian National Vimy Memorial and of the construction of the Amicitia monument in Ottawa. This partial list of Mrs. Vari’s work is in addition to the contributions she made for the benefit of youth, education and the Canadian Armed Forces.

A patron of the foreign section of the Society of Members of the Legion of Honour, Mrs. Vari embodied and defended the values espoused by our highest national order.

She will never be forgotten.
